Britney Spears' Till the World Ends video is also fabulously dystopian. I'm sure there have been plenty of trends like this, but it's the first one where I've really noticed the imagery move from one field to another -- so interesting. Like watching a meme spread.

If YA is 5-10 yrs ahead, what's YA sci fi? :)

Great point about the hunger games. I missed that.

I've always said: YA books are five or ten years ahead of the rest of society/pop culture.

Obsessive isn't meant as an insult -- we all have something we care about, right? Your system's done really well -- great attention to detail. Thanks so much for sharing it, and I hope your dad's doing better!

This is a completely ridiculous comment, but when I was first reading through the post I misread the falcon's name as Lulz which sort of changed the whole tone. But yes, falconry is awesome!

The main difference is that scrapbooking is all about personalization and presentation, and these pinboards can't be customized. Since the look and feel is consistent across the site, the focus is on the collected objects. But your wife is right, it has taken off! Pinterest already has as many daily page views as Tumblr, and it's rapidly turning into one of the biggest shopping portals out there...

it may be a type of world-building, but i also think it might be more in keeping with a sort of digital scrapbooking.

my wife came to me this morning saying "this pinterest thing is really taking off!" and then pointed out that she tried it out and within ten minutes had already been reposted five times. she recognized them all as mommy bloggers she once followed but lost track of. i asked her what her take was and she said that it felt like a less intimidating version of the way teens use tumblr.

FWIW
